The MVS to UNIX Sort Converter converts MVS sort jobsteps written in JCL to SyncSort applications written as UNIX shell scripts. The Converter executes under the UNIX operating system.

- Move a JCL jobstream to UNIX
- Run the JCL through the Converter

The MVS to UNIX Sort Converter can process any MVS mainframe JCL sort. The Converter processes the basic JCL file and the following associated files, if present:
The Converter handles multiple jobsteps without any additional processing.

The Converter provides the following options:
- Generate either ASCII or EBCDIC collating sequence sorts
- For variable-length records, generate either UNIX text file or variable file sorts
- Define mappings between MVS dataset names and UNIX filenames
- Retain the original JCL as comments in the shell file or generate only the UNIX shell script
- Place non-sort-related JCL into the shell script file for further processing

Sort applications are ready to execute under UNIX immediately after conversion.
In cases where additional information is required, the syncgrep command allows you to scan the generated text files for messages.

The MVS to UNIX Sort Converter runs on all UNIX platforms, including:
- SUN
- Hewlett Packard
- IBM
- Digital
- Pyramid
- NCR

The example below illustrates the processing flow of the MVS to UNIX Sort Converter. After the JCL sort jobstream that you wish to convert is moved to the UNIX platform, you input the jobstream to the Converter. The output is a SyncSort application written as a UNIX shell script.
