The Syncsort Backup Express database agents provide high-performance AdvancedClient block-level incremental (BLI) snapshots and fast point-in-time recovery of Oracle 10g/9i, Exchange 2000/2003/2007, and SQL Server 2000/2005.
The Syncsort agents integrate with database APIs, and databases are displayed as recognizable, selectable volumes in the backup and restore windows. Oracle support includes RMAN cataloging and highly efficient near-instant cloning.
AdvancedClient BLI protection provides significant benefits compared to traditional backup methods:
- Snapshots streamline database recovery. Snapshots appear and function as full point-in-time base backups (virtual volume images). These base-image snapshots eliminate the need to aggregate backups for restore and reduce the number of transaction logs that need to be applied.
- All virtual volume images are displayed in the Backup Express GUI for recovery at the volume or database level.
- Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is utilized to back up Exchange and SQL Server on Windows 2003 nodes.
All the advantages of Syncsort AdvancedClient technology are applicable to database backup and restore, including image-based server recovery, physical disk-level access, block-level data movement and storage, direct recovery from point-in-time snapshots, cluster and SAN support, a single catalog, and efficient control from the Backup Express GUI.
