ADIC is one of the pioneers in tape backup and has solutions that range from workgroup-sized library units to data center-class data protection installations. The ADIC and NetApp FC Tape SAN backup solution offers greater flexibility than conventional backup solutions by allowing multiple storage appliances to access multiple-drive tape-based storage resources on the same storage area network. Because all filers can access all tape devices in the SAN, this backup solution provides a structure that Syncsort's Backup Express can leverage by supporting dynamic drive sharing which helps maximize throughput and return a higher ROI.
Syncsort, ADIC and NetApp are strategic partners that have teamed up to provide the FC Tape SAN backup solution. This solution allows NetApp storage appliances to share an ADIC Scalar library with other servers in the SAN environment, and enables Fibre Channel connectivity in non-switched environments as well. Backup Express is included in the qualification.

DAS is an ADIC client/server software product that provides shared access to the family of ADIC Automated Mixed-Media Libraries (AML). An unlimited number of heterogeneous networked clients can be configured within a DAS environment. DAS provides customers with the ability to optimize their automation strategies throughout the enterprise and leverage their AML acquisition decision. Support for (DM02-DM09), (DM11-DM28) for Windows 32-bit only; Solaris 2.4+, Linux 2.2.x.
ADIC's Scalar Distributed Library Controller (DLC) software works in concert with ADIC's Scalar 1000 and Scalar 10K tape libraries, by providing the connectivity, intelligence and logic enabling one library to support mixed media in up to 16 virtual libraries. Tape library users can create partitions within a library to facilitate independent access by various applications and/or users of a virtual library serving as a centralized management tool that simplifies and automates the tracking and management of library system resources for optimal performance. The Scalar DLC software provides network and systems administrators with a JAVA-based interface that allows library monitoring from anywhere via the Web. Backup Express now supports SDLC 2.2 and above on both Windows and Solaris.
For specific compatibility information see the interactive Backup Express Supported Technologies Database.
