SyncSort Release 3 provides powerful new features and enhancements that will enable businesses to quickly process and reduce the massive volume of click-stream data generated by the dialog of user activity on company websites. Many major companies use SyncSort for the initial mining of this raw data to generate traffic analysis and usage statistics.
New Features and Enhancements:
Web Log Processing
The latest release of SyncSort combines a host of new features that are tailored specifically for enhanced Web log processing support with the high performance sort capabilities that have made Syncsort's flagship product a world leader for over 30 years:
- Standard Web template files expedite access to data with pre-defined layouts of typical Web formats that save users the time it takes to create their own record layouts.
- Numerous choices of date and time formats make processing of date and time fields easier for users and keep formats intact after transfer from the Web logs.
- Pattern matching simplifies extraction of any data that can be described through a regular expression.
- Enclosing character support allows data that is surrounded with character pairs, such as quotes or parentheses, to be processed.
The Join Feature
The new join feature enables records from two different source files to be joined to create target records that contain selected data from both sources. For instance, a customer file and a transaction file might be joined on a common customer number field to create target records that contain customer fields (such as name and address) and transactions fields (such as quantity and dollar amount purchased). SyncSort supports left, right, inner and outer joins.
According to Stephen Gilbert of The NPD Group, Inc., "SyncSort reduces the number of processes we need to prepare data from as many as five passes down to one and accomplishes the same job previously handled by three software products. Consolidating the number of passes necessary and increasing the processing speed has yielded total results of up to five or six times faster than achieved with our previous products."
Improved Performance
SyncSort Release 3 also provides significant improvements in CPU time for a wide range of cases. In addition, if users are not achieving optimal results, SyncSort automatically generates guidelines for improving their performance. SyncSort supports the most current versions of Windows and UNIX, including Windows 2000 and 64 bit versions of all the major UNIX platforms.
