Sales Engineer

Central Region, United States

The Technical Pre-Sales Engineer is a tech-savvy professional focused on technical presales support of Syncsort software products. This individual will work in the field to help existing sales teams with new customer opportunities, translate customer technical requirements to a Syncsort solution, drive the technical discussions, deliver custom demonstrations, and implement technical proofs-of-concept. This individual will be comfortable working in a results driven, highly-motivated sales team. There will be significant opportunity to influence product design and positioning, with an ideal candidate being a thoughtful and persuasive contributor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate and work positively and effectively with Field Sales team (AE, ISR, Sales/Bus Dev/Engineering Management) as well as cross functional groups in Engineering (Development, Service/Support, QA), Marketing and Product Management
  • Present company products, manage POC and trial processes to customers/partners – from technical to CIO levels
  • Establish excellent personal relationships with customers/partners
  • Display a high level of technical expertise/experience, understand performance characteristics and establish credibility with customers/partners
  • Answer questions, overcome concerns and find solutions to customer/partner problems related to POC/Trial/purchase
  • Persuade customers/partners of the company products’ value and benefits – explain product architectures, assist with cost justification and license key/pricing issues
  • Gather customer requirements and present to Product Management
  • Maintain view of product delivery schedules/priorities and coordinate with customer commitments
  • Help drive new business and revenue with customers/partners
 
QUALIFICATIONS, KEY SKILLS:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or other related technology disciplines. (Candidates with other degrees or relevant work experience will be considered if they are able to demonstrate sufficient technical proficiency and expertise.)
  • 3+ years of Technical Pre-Sales experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a Pre-Sales role
  • Unix/Linux/Windows OS Level knowledge required
  • Experience with DB2, IMS, CICS, RACF, ACF2, MICS, MXG, Omegamon is a plus
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, Network protocols is a plus
  • Technically relevant experience with data intensive applications including ETL, data integration, high performance databases, data warehousing
  • Experience with leading DBMS systems; Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, Netezza, Vertica
  • Experience with ETL tools including DataStage, Informatica, Pentaho or Talend is a plus
  • Experience with Data Quality tools including, Dataflux, Talend, Trillium, Firstlogic / Business Objects, etc. is a plus
  • 1+ year big data experience
  • Coding experience  C, C++, or Java is a plus
  • Cross Database SQL experience is a plus
