Associate Software Development Engineer - UK

Syncsort is looking for an Associate Software Development Engineer that will play a significant role within the Software Development Engineering group to enhance our technical vision and direction for existing and new products. This position will report to the Director Software Development.  This position will join a team whose task is to grow our product portfolio and create solutions for IBM mainframe and connected platforms. The initial focus will be for the DL/2 and VS/2 product group.

Office location: East Grinstead, UK

Responsibilities:

  • Work within a distributed team to develop and support our enterprise-level software with emphasis on high performance, scalability and resilience
  • Design, build and maintain software products for a broad range of complex solutions
  • Ensure compliance with architecture/technology/security standards based on best practices
  • Develop new skills in company's technical community
  • May be required to visit customers on either technical or advisory trips
  • May be required to visit other company locations on either technical or advisory trips
  • May be required to work out of hours for critical customer situations

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ideally a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with IBM mainframes running z/OS operating system with a working knowledge of z/OS subsystems, systems tools and utilities.
  • Knowledge in IBM mainframe application concepts; especially transaction and database processing and management (Db2, IMS and CICS)
  • Any IBM programming language skills are beneficial (particularly HLASM)
  • Excellent analytical skills and an adept problem solver
  • Enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced, demanding business environment while collaborating effectively with cross-functional groups, management, sales and customers
  • A passionate and energetic self-starter able to work with minimal supervision
  • Adaptable, open minded and intellectually curious with excellent communication skills
